SQL Reporting & Data Integration Engineer (Petaling Jaya)

We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer with strong expertise in SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) to support enterprise reporting, database development, data integration, and automation activities.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing reliable reporting solutions, optimising SQL databases, supporting ETL workflows, and maintaining integrations between systems. You will work closely with business and application teams to translate reporting requirements into accurate and efficient solutions.

This role also involves production support, troubleshooting, secure file transfers, reporting automation, and maintaining technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting & Business Intelligence

• Design, develop, deploy, and maintain reports using SSRS.
• Translate business requirements into clear and functional reporting solutions.
• Build and optimise datasets, parameters, subscriptions, and scheduled reports.
• Develop operational, management, financial, regulatory, and ad-hoc reports.
• Monitor report performance and improve data retrieval efficiency.
• Work with stakeholders to understand and document reporting requirements.
• Ensure reports are accurate, consistent, and delivered within required timelines.

Database Development

• Develop and maintain SQL Server objects including stored procedures, functions, views, and triggers.
• Write and optimise T-SQL queries and scripts.
• Perform query analysis and database performance tuning.
• Troubleshoot database issues within production environments.
• Monitor and maintain SQL Server Agent jobs.

ETL & Data Integration

• Develop and maintain ETL workflows using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
• Support data extraction, transformation, and loading processes.
• Maintain system interfaces and integration workflows.
• Perform data validation and reconciliation between source and target systems.
• Investigate and resolve data-transfer and integration issues.

Automation & Secure Data Transfer

• Create PowerShell scripts for operational and monitoring activities.
• Support automated file transfers using SSH/SFTP.
• Work with PGP/GPG encryption and decryption processes.
• Automate reporting and file-processing workflows.
• Monitor scheduled and batch-processing activities.

Production Support

• Provide Level 2 and Level 3 technical support for reporting, database, and integration incidents.
• Investigate root causes and implement long-term solutions.
• Assist with deployments, change management, and disaster recovery activities.
• Ensure production issues are handled according to agreed SLAs.

Documentation & Governance

• Maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.
• Prepare report specifications and data-mapping documentation.
• Follow security, audit, compliance, and governance requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of experience working with Microsoft SQL Server technologies.
• Strong practical experience developing reports with SSRS.
• Experience supporting reporting solutions in a production environment.
• Previous experience in banking or financial services is an advantage.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
• Good stakeholder communication and requirements-gathering skills.
• Strong documentation and report-writing skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and data accuracy.
• Ability to manage multiple reporting tasks and priorities.
