Quantity Surveyor
As a quantity surveyor you'll manage all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures. Working either for the client or the contractor, in an office or on site, you'll be involved in a project from the start.
You'll seek to minimize the cost of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality. This includes ensuring statutory building regulations are met. You'll prepare estimates and costs of the work and when the project is in progress, you'll keep track of any variations to the contract that may affect costs and create reports to show profitability.
Alternative job titles include construction cost consultant and commercial manager.
Responsibilities
The first part of a project is the design stage and you’ll have a range of specific responsibilities you’re required to undertake during that period.
- Assist in establishing a client’s requirements and undertake feasibility studies.
- Run cost analyses of the various types of work as a forerunner to tender preparation.
- Select, price and source construction materials.
- Advise clients on procurement strategies.
- Factor in the implications of health and safety regulations.
- Identify commercial risks and help develop suitable responses. Prepare the tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities, with the architect and the client.
- Select subcontractors, agree the scope of services and allocate work.
- Monitor and control costs throughout the project.
- Identify risks surrounding the project and the likelihood of cost variation.
- Track any changes to the design or actual work and adjust budget projections.
- Value completed work and arrange payments to subcontractors.
- Analyze progress and write detailed reports.
- Liaise between site managers, project managers, site engineers and the client. Prepare summary reports for the client and other relevant stakeholders.
- Run cost analyses for ongoing repair and maintenance work.
- Advise on any outstanding contractual claims remaining.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Candidate must possess at least Degree / Advance Diploma in Quantity Surveying or Civil / Structure / Building
- Required language(s): Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mandarin
- Proficiency in English, excellent interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written.
- At least 2 year(s) of working experience in the related field is required for this position. Prefer with experience in Interior Design & Build Company.
- Computer literature, with knowledge of AutoCAD, MS. Word, MS.Excel.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
- Able to work independently in handling site quantity surveying works and tendering works.
